Adam failed God in the garden of Eden, and as a result of this failure, all mankind has suffered. Death came to us all in the aftermath of this terrible sin of Adam. God had warned Adam. Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. As far as God is concerned Adam and all humanity died that day in the trespasses of sin.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Those are the words of God in Jesus Christ speaking to all of us dead people. Jesus wants to raise us all from the dead. We do not have to stay dead, but there are some things we must do in order to have abundant life. We must change our ways, and then we can enjoy the blessings of all the provisions of the old rugged cross, and we can look forward to a day when all the limitations of those who passed from death to life will be removed. We will be eternally grateful that we listened to the instructions and obeyed the Word of the Lord.
